The One Single Strategy to Sky High Engagement and More Sales that You Can Inject in Your Emails Today

What's the problem with most emails today?

They are so "ho-hum."

Seen them all before.

Boring.

Delete.

If you don't want your emails to dump into the "next - delete - next - delete" cycle, you need to add storytelling.

But telling a story that doesn't engage your audience... that's just a different kind of "ho-hum."

A story must engage.

You must create empathy for your characters, whether that's yourself, your dog, or your grand-child.

If your readers don't care about your story, they'll delete your email long before they reach your call-to-action.

And, as you know, no clicks = no sales.

Fiction Writers Have a Similar Problem

If their stories don't grab the reader and pull them down into the book, the reader will put down the book.

And that means no or bad reviews, and the reader will definitely not pick up the next book by that author.

Fiction Writers Have a Solution

That's why one of the first things a fiction writer learns is that she must "show, don't tell."

This sounds simple, until you try it... Then you find out that there is a lot you must know about this.

As Email Marketers We Don't Need to Master Show, Don't Tell

But we still need to use it.

There are so many advantages to showing:

  • Your subscriber will feel part of your story.
  • Your subscriber will feel empathy for your characters.
  • Your subscriber will read the whole story.
  • You've increased your chances of getting that click.

So, how do you "show"?

In short, instead of writing, "I missed my train," you "show" what happened.

I rushed towards the stairs, heaving in air, ran down them, through the corridor, and up a new flight of stairs to platform 6.

When I got up, I saw the red lights disappear in the distance.

But Britt... That's So Much Longer

Yes...

And that's the disadvantage of showing. It takes many more words.

Normally, that's not a problem, because the reading experience is more interesting.

But if you show everything... then your subscriber will get overwhelmed.

That's why there is a time to show and a time to tell.

When I got a question on Twitter about when not to show, I knew I needed to write a book about it.

Allow me proudly to present...
